A Montana farming family is confronted by other people encroaching on their land. Forrie J. Smith, who plays Lloyd, is a seasoned rodeo expert. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) often seems to “forget” his Montanan accent and reverts to the SoCal dialect he usually uses.. Featured on WatchMojo: 10 Best Summer TV Shows Off Your Radar (2018). (Review only for the first two seasons) I didn’t come into this series expecting to like it, but the story, acting, and cinematography are all excellent. It’s basically Montana Mob Wars with the occasional heavy dose of testosterone (cowboys with guns on horses fishing)! Costner is an excellent actor in the lead role of the Duttons. The show is at its best when it shows the chessboard moving the Duttons and their enemies. The show falters at the beginning of the second season, but picks up again halfway through. Kelsey Asbille is the weakest link in the role of Monica and gives a weak performance, the plot is awkwardly scattered and the acting misses the mark. I think Cole Hauser as Rip may be the strongest actor (apart from Costner himself) and I was looking forward to all of Rip’s scenes. Thomas Rainwater is also great. The story picks up and the landscapes are beautiful. Much like Cormac McCarthy’s All the Pretty Horses was a bit more raw and brutal than the title suggests, this series is in a similar vein. I highly recommend it and wish I hadn’t waited so long to watch it.
